NodePing Documentation

NodePing provides website and server availability monitoring. At its most basic, the service lets users enter a list of addresses of web site addresses or other Internet based services, and then checks to see if that site or service is responding properly. If a web site or other service does not respond correctly, the service automatically notifies someone by email, SMS, voice, Pushover, twitter direct message, etc. Results are stored in our databases so they're available for reports. Using the service for basic web site monitoring is very easy, and only takes a few minutes to set up and get your first results. Then the goal is to make it take as little attention from you as possible, so you can mostly ignore it unless something needs attention. After all, that's a big part of what server monitoring is for. The service is designed to be very easy to use, and to make it very easy to get the information you need about your sites and systems. If you are just getting started, we suggest you go to our Getting Started page and jump right in.

NodePing Web Site Monitoring StatusThat's basically what the NodePing does, but the service is considerably more sophisticated than that. In addition to a focus on ease of use and a series of sophisticated protocol checks, a big part of a monitoring service is reliability. Our system is designed to be very reliable, and not subject to single points of failure. That means, among other things, geographically distributed servers in a multi-tiered architecture, automated fail over, clustered databases, and load balancing.

NodePing goes beyond basic monitoring to provide you with the ability to support your own customers with monitoring services. This part of the service is designed with service providers, resellers, consultants, and hosting companies in mind. This functionality is completely optional, and you can choose to use it or ignore it if you don't need it. There are three main components, all of which are included with your NodePing subscription (Business plan or above) at no additional cost:

  • Subaccount management lets you add and manage your customer's accounts.
  • Branding lets you customize the messages that go out for notifications and other information your customers receive from the monitoring system.
  • The API lets you integrate the monitoring with your own systems. This is often used to integrate monitoring with your existing customer management and provisioning systems. You can also use the API to pull results information from the NodePing database.
